The Mid-Autumn Festival, Community, and Seniors’ Party jointly organized by the Vaughan Multicultural Community Association (VMCA) and Mapleview Entertainment on September 9th was successfully held in Vaughan. This event served as a summary party for the 2023 VMCA Annual Dance Event and Mapleview Entertainment’s Tai Chi Event. The event received funding from the Canadian federal government’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. Federal Member of Parliament FRANCESCO SORBARA attended the event.
With over 120 people from the community in attendance, the atmosphere was lively and extraordinary. The elderly enjoyed delicious food while watching cultural performances, indulging in a joyful time.
Jennifer Zhu, on behalf of the organizers Vaughan Multicultural Community Association (VMCA) and Mapleview Entertainment, delivered a speech at the event.
She said, “Firstly, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all the guests attending our event today. I would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the performance groups that have signed up to participate in this event. The Vaughan Multicultural Community Association (VMCA) is a federally registered non-profit organization. Our main objective is to serve the diverse ethnic communities in Vaughan, promote community integration, facilitate collaboration, and foster diversity and harmony among different ethnic groups. The goal of VMCA is to establish a multicultural immigrant community where people of all ages and cultures can come together to enjoy various activities and programs, promoting cultural exchange among different groups. Since its establishment, VMCA has provided services to the community and the elderly on multiple occasions.”
Mapleview Entertainment is a professional production company dedicated to film and television production and market promotion. Over the years, in addition to professional film and television production and marketing, the company is committed to serving the community and the elderly. They have repeatedly provided various free lectures and services to the local community and seniors, teaching the elderly how to use smartphones for photography.
Over the past few years, we have provided various service projects for the community and the elderly, including:
Lectures on the mental health of the elderly;
Assisting the elderly in using smartphones for photography;
Organizing calligraphy and painting exhibitions for the elderly;
Promoting Chinese tea culture and tea art performances across different cultures;
Teaching the elderly about waste sorting and disposal;
Organizing qipao (cheongsam) fashion shows for the elderly;
Hosting mahjong competitions among the elderly;
Organizing yoga exercises to help the elderly maintain their physical health.
In the future, we hope to organize more activities to provide various benefits and assistance to everyone, such as gardening, illustration, photography, tea art, and how to use social media in the digital age, etc., to further enrich the leisure and cultural lives of the elderly. We also hope that residents, seniors, and new immigrants living in Vaughan, regardless of ethnicity, can join our big family and participate in our activities.
Lastly, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to everyone once again! I hope everyone can have a good time and enjoy the food and activities here today!
Federal Member of Parliament FRANCESCO SORBARA expressed his gratitude in his speech, thanking the organizers for their long-standing commitment to serving the local community and the elderly. He also expressed his appreciation for being able to participate in this event. He hopes that the organizers will continue to support local elderly service projects as always and provide more assistance to the elderly.

In addition to the delicious food, the raffle activities provided by the organizers on-site also brought the event to a climax.
