VMCA organized mahjong competitions for seniors at the community center. We offered 4 lectures to teach seniors how to use online interaction platforms, conducted 5 educational offline workshops, hosted 12 online practice small-scale tournaments, and organized 1 large-scale mahjong competition. The purpose of these activities is to engage seniors’ body, mind, and spirit to better understand and enhance their quality of life and to promote full expression.
These activities enable older adults to connect from the safety of their homes, preventing seniors’ social isolation. They help ease depression, adjust mood, and maintain physical and mental health. We believe that older adults, seniors, and the organizations and communities that support them will become stronger as they learn and play together in a safe environment.

Over 200 people participated in the competition. This event prevents elderly participants from social isolation, helps them ease depression and anxiety, adjust their mood in general, and maintain their physical health. Additionally, from volunteering in this project, the young volunteers also learned about the generation barrier, fostering an understanding that lays the groundwork for stronger intergenerational relationships.
