Among the many joyful moments during VMCA’s July 14th summer event, one stood out for its warmth and heart — our creative handcraft showcase.
What began as a small sign-up quickly became a lively circle of learners, all eager to try their hand at knitting. Some came with experience, while others were complete beginners — but everyone found a place at Ali’s table. Her teaching was clear and encouraging, and she welcomed every question with a smile. With yarn in hand, people learned to cast on, knit, and purl, slowly but surely crafting small pieces of handmade art.
But more than techniques, what truly stood out was the feeling in the room. Conversation flowed as easily as the yarn. There was laughter, curiosity, and that quiet joy of doing something creative with your hands. Throughout the session, friends shared freshly baked cakes and slices of watermelon, making the experience even sweeter.
At VMCA, we believe that craft is about more than just skill — it’s about connection. On that day, knitting helped us build something far more important than scarves or patterns — it helped us build community.
