VMCA Seniors’ Creative Flower Arrangement Program: Outdoor Learning at Local Nursery

On May 26, 2025, as part of the Vaughan Multicultural Community Association’s (VMCA) Creative Flower Arrangement Program for seniors, Teacher Heather led a refreshing outdoor visit to a nearby flower nursery. This change of scenery brought new energy and hands-on learning to the class.

Surrounded by a stunning variety of flowers, participants deepened their understanding of plants in a real-world setting. Heather thoughtfully prepared printed plant guides to help everyone identify the blooms, and shared digital copies in the group chat for those unable to attend — a gesture that showed her dedication to inclusive learning.

Nestled right on Yonge Street, the nursery offered a peaceful escape with the bonus of free parking. Though the longer trip caused a slight delay for Teresa Lo and her husband, who went directly to the second class afterward, their enthusiasm never wavered.

Heather’s clear and engaging explanations sparked lively interaction among participants. Meanwhile, Teacher Annie captured memorable moments on video to share with the whole class, allowing everyone to revisit the experience.

Students learned that potted floral arrangements, like those at the nursery, are easier to grow and maintain than hydroponic plants, making them ideal for home design. As in life, flower arranging requires patience, care, and balance — when these come together, beauty blossoms.
