On the morning of July 21, 2025, the Vaughan Multicultural Community Association (VMCA) hosted a special session of its Senior Inclusion program, focusing on mobile video editing using the CapCut app.
Held at the community center at 9500 Dufferin Street, the workshop offered seniors a hands-on introduction to telling personal stories through video—using just their smartphones.
Under the patient and encouraging guidance of Ms. Bi, participants explored how to turn everyday footage into engaging short films.
From trimming clips to adding music and sound effects, the class provided both technical skills and creative expression.
Throughout the session, seniors practiced:
- Cutting and trimming clips to remove unwanted footage and keep the best moments
- Adding background music to give their videos mood and rhythm
- Adjusting audio levels and applying fade-outs for smoother transitions
- Using sound effects like applause or fun swooshes to enhance their storytelling
- Recording voiceovers, allowing participants to narrate their videos in their own voices
The classroom quickly transformed into a lively creative studio, with participants proudly experimenting and collaborating.
By the end of the workshop, the room was filled with laughter and applause as each person shared their unique creation—
a video that reflected their personality, perspective, and pride.
This workshop was about more than learning an app.
It was about self-expression, connection, and building confidence in today’s digital world.
With just a smartphone and a little guidance, each senior discovered the joy of sharing their voice through video.
